The metallic packaging combined blue and silver for a fresher feel than Metal Master. The lettering printed on the off-white shell was also blue. Instant transfer lettering was supplied instead of a title label. Write protection used plugs that could be changed as often as needed. At 70 grams for the 46-minute version, it was a heavyweight cassette with an outstanding sense of stability.
Explanatory Note
Like Metal Master, this cassette had a ceramic composite shell and aimed to represent the pinnacle of High Position.
It appeared the year after Metal Master and was its High Position counterpart. The entire shell used the off-white material ファイン・セラミック・コンポジット材 (Fine Ceramic Composite). A separate ceramic tape guide suppressed tape vibration and ensured stable tape travel. Compared with the first-generation UX-PRO, previously the top High Position cassette, the shell had twice the density, 2.2 times the rigidity (flexural modulus), one-tenth the tendency to accumulate static charge, and heat resistance improved by 50 °C.
The tape was equivalent to UX-PRO, with residual magnetic flux density of 2000 gauss, coercivity of 680 oersteds and a squareness ratio of 0.93: top specifications for the time. Despite this, the price was only ¥100 higher than UX-PRO. Looking back, it was a very good-value cassette.
