Sony What's up?, all colors, cases and packaging

All five shell colors were subdued and gave a calm impression. The packaging was see-through so that the colors could be clearly seen. The hubs visible through the shell’s large window were large hubs in a color different from the shell, giving them a strong presence.

Explanatory Note

“What’s up?” is said to be a casual greeting between close friends, along the lines of “What are you doing?” or “How are you?” The name is said to have been chosen out of a wish for people to have a casual, close relationship with music.

This cassette transformed “HF-S” into a fashion-oriented, stylish version. Both the tape used and the shape of the extra-wide-window shell were exactly those of “HF-S,” but the shell color could be chosen from five options: green, yellow, blue, red and gray. Suggested uses included changing the color according to the music genre, artist or recording source.
