A stylish cassette with a frosted-glass-style shell and cute pastel colors.
Normal. Since 1986.
First Generation, 1986
46 minutes - ¥300.
The see-through packaging, featuring large “A・la?” lettering, revealed the frosted-glass-style cassette inside. A different pattern was used for each hub color. The cards inside and other elements carried the same pattern printed in the same color as the hubs.
Second Generation, 1988
46 minutes - ¥290.
A second generation appeared, which was unusual for fashion cassettes. The packaging changed to a ribbon design, and an “A・la?” logo was added at the center of the shell, giving it an even cuter image. Orange was added in place of the white version.
Explanatory Note
This was a fashion cassette Sony released in 1986, when stylish cassettes were enjoying a boom.
The product used pastel tones, but was more than just a colored cassette. The transparent shell’s surface received a rough-textured finish (しぼ加工), giving it the appearance of frosted glass and making the colored hubs inside appear in pale tones. The hubs came in five colors: pink, yellow, green, blue and white. All versions offered 46 minutes of recording time and used large hubs. The tape was equivalent to “HF.”
