A new idea of “genre-specific cassettes,” used according to the musical genre.

“Classic” was a high-grade Normal cassette equivalent to “AHF,” suited to large orchestras. “Pops” used tape equivalent to “BHF” and excelled at vocal-centered music. “Rock” was the series’ only High-position cassette, intended for dynamic, high-power sound. The 54-minute version had a pleasing ring to its name, “Rock 54.”
Pops / TYPE I, 1981
54 minutes - ¥600 / 84 minutes - ¥800.
Rock / TYPE II, 1981
54 minutes - ¥700 / 84 minutes - ¥950.
Explanatory Note
This series took a previously unseen approach to users: Sony recommended tape according to the genre of music they wanted to record, allowing them to choose the best option with confidence. There were three genres: “rock,” “classical” and “pop.” The most suitable tape type and grade for each genre were selected from those used in the “HF series” and other ranges. Convenient playing-time options were also prepared for each genre, and thought went into the individual card designs and other details.
