It turned out to be surprisingly hard to find details on this cassette. I was sure BASF, given how popular the brand was, would have been picked apart from every angle - but no, barely a crumb of information anywhere. Fair enough, the model came out not even at the twilight but in the dead of night of the cassette era, but you’d still expect at least some promo or educational materials from the company itself. Nope.
Following up on that, I decided to play back what was recorded on it - first a voice-over in German (or maybe Dutch, whatever they call it over there) introducing a performer, then she sings something in a vocal-jazz style with these intricate plays on sound, then the announcer again, then more singing. Here’s the thing - Shazam couldn’t identify a single singing fragment, no matter how many times I tried. If there’s little information, there’s little information :)
Still, from the recording itself I got confirmation of what they wrote on the packaging - serious bass, you can really hear it, my Technics was pumping like that for the first time ever with any recording. Unexpected.
A friend came through with some details, and I borrowed a magazine description from him, plus managed to dig up a little more from Western sources - but honestly, crumbs.
