An A2 sheet folded in four, 8 pages - a booklet for a single model: Sharp GF-999 “Searcher W” at ¥123,000, August 1981. On the cover conductor Hiroyuki Iwaki listens to the boombox at his feet and remarks “well yes, it resonates nicely” - an unconventional ambassador choice even by Japanese standards. The entire booklet is built around two principles: three-way acoustics with a dedicated super woofer and separate amplifiers for each band, plus dual cassette for ping-pong dubbing and home multi-voice choir recording. The ¥123,000 price tag was at the top end of the portable equipment market in 1981.
Multi-Amp Multi-Speaker System - each of the three bands (high/mid/low) is driven by a separate amplifier for clean sound across the full range
Super Woofer - dedicated subwoofer for deep bass, the main marketing feature of the GF-999
Super Tweeter - dedicated high-frequency driver as part of the three-way system
- Wカセット - W Cassette - dual cassette mechanism for simultaneous operation with two tapes
Electronic Echo - built-in echo effect for multi-track recordings and vocals
Ping-Pong Cassette Mechanism - bounce recording between two decks for layered multi-track recording
